Prosper VB Family—
What a great first day of school! I have seen some of the girls around school today, and they all SEEM to be excited to be back at it! I know that the first day of school actually comes as a relief to the athletes, as this is when our hectic go go go! Schedule settles down just a tad, and we start getting into a more consistent schedule.
The weekend recap:
We hosted our North Texas Invitational Varsity tournament up at the high school on Thursday and Saturday. Junior Varsity participated in the tournament, finishing 2nd in their pool on Day 1, and advancing to the Championship Bracket for playoffs! They lost a hard fought 3 set match to Celina, then came back to beat Gainesville in 3, and finished off the day by beating Aubrey in three. What a great showing for our Junior Varsity team at a VARSITY tournament!
A special THANK YOU goes out to our Athletic Department, for helping run the tournament along with our Amazing Booster Club and parent volunteers; especially Bob Jameson for coordinating and running the hospitality room and concession stand, and Julie Gargus for helping him with the scheduling on that. Also to Taylor Thompson for providing Tournament T-shirts for the weekend, and as always, to our Booster Club President, Jason Scarbrough, as we could not do what we do here without his dedication and organization to the betterment of our program. BIG THANKS!!!!! As most of you probably know, I came down with a nasty stomach virus on Wednesday night, and if it wasn’t for the help of Coach Mullins, Chelsea Watkins, my entire HS AND MS volleyball staff, and parent volunteers, our tournament would not have gone as smoothly as it did. Again—thank you.
Varsity competed in the Northwest ISD Tournament—widely regarded as one of the top tournaments in the state. We advanced to Gold after day 1, beating Keller and Red Oak, before losing in 3 to Frisco. Day 2 we did not see as much success, as we finished 3rd in our pool, losing in 3 to Lovejoy and Waxahachie, but sweeping Pearland Dawson High School, which sent us to the Bronze Bracket of the Championship Half. Day three started out slow by getting beat by Austin Vendegrift in three, but we finished strong by sweeping Mansfield Timberview. Fun fact: Waxahachie finished 2nd in the tournament, losing in the finals to Southlake Carroll, who is ranked 3# in the latestLonestarvolleyball.com Top 20 Poll. We took a game off of Waxahachie, beating them 25-19 in Set one. What does this mean? It means that we are RIGHT THERE, and SO CLOSE to competing consistently with the top teams in the state! While we went .500 (4-4) at the tournament, playing teams like this only helps us prepare for District play, which is known to be one of the toughest ones in the state in 4A. If we are going to be the best, we have to compete against the best. As of the last TGCA 4A poll, we were ranked #4 in the state, behind Cedar Park, Highland Park, and Aledo, respectively. That poll will move around big time this week, but I expect us to continue to be in the top 10. What a great start for Prosper Volleyball!

***If you haven’t sent in your Assists for Alzheimer’s donations, please get that to me by tomorrow! One final note, I know that some of you have shown concern regarding our District Match schedule the back half of district play, particularly regarding the Homecoming match vs. Wakeland. Coach Mullins worked hard to propose a new district schedule, but it was voted down. We then attempted to make the single match change with Wakeland, but due to prior commitments on their end, we are not able to rearrange any matches. Therefore, our district schedule stands as is. There is nothing that we can do about it, and as I tell my athletes, it’s pointless to worry about something that we cannot control. However, we can control working with the athletes’ that are participating in the Homecoming football game. Please have your daughter inform her immediate coach as well as me about any conflicts we will have with Friday night district play. We will do our best to accommodate everyone so that we are all happy in the long run!
Have a Great Week!
